Amazing view from the Jaffa boardwalk of Tel-Aviv alongside the Mediterranean.
We arrived in Jaffa, a sunny day with a beautiful view of Tel-Aviv alongside the sea from the Namal (boardwalk). The first thing we did after looking into the Mediterranean was go into a couple art galleries on the boardwalk.

Before entering the gallery there was a large painting of a person eating a heart with blood dripping onto his hand and shirt. After a second look with a closer inspection I realized it was actually a pomegranate and its sweet juices. Inside were many kinds and forms of art ranging from chairs to paintings, but I enjoyed the horse made of wire the most. It was both elegant and technical in both form and representation.
The view from the Namal
After the initial galleries we continued down the namal toward the old city of Jaffa. To our left was the most fantastic view of the sea and the calming noise of water splashing against the stone walls.
After walking for a short bit we began our ascent into the old city of Jaffa towards the clock tower. There are two but we went for the one labeled on our map, which also happened to be shorter, but we made our way to both eventually.
At the clock tower we bought a breakfast pizza and calzone from the local Ma’afia (bakery). Although the bakers were their usual brash selves, the place has been a bakery since 1879 and we had fantastic food.
After we ate our food, we left the clock tower and headed towards the shuk (flea market). On the way we stopped by a monument of three events, Jacob’s ladder dream, the sacrifice of Isaac, and the fall of Jericho. This is supposed to be the location of where Jacob had his dream.

The market was of course hustling a bustling. Supposedly everyone’s wares are brand new never opened, even if they have tape holding the charger together. And each of the vendor’s has a contact in China where he decides what they make. Lastly, $50 shoes go for $5 here, so that is a big plus, but is it really the same shoe, or a cheap knockoff that looks the same?
The Shuk
After the leaving the Shuk, we headed through the jewelry galleries and vendors whose locations are carved into the walls of the old city in narrow tunnels. They each had beautiful jewelry, but I can’t find any pictures of those right now.
On our way back to the port where we arrived, I thought back on my walk through the new and old parts of Jaffa and remembered this is such an old city with history that is still going strong, of which I have only seen the surface.
