At Chabad, we have a joke that we like to use: “Jews say goodbye but never leave,” referring to our friends who continually say goodbye four or five times before actually leaving an event or place. I suppose my reluctance to leave events with my friends transfers over to my reluctance to leave the country.
In exactly 12 hours, we will be taking off into the air to travel to Israel. While I am excited to see my friends and family there and spend time traveling around my birth state and through Europe, I know leaving behind the life and friends I have here will be incredibly difficult.
However, I have come to realize that while I am indeed physically leaving the country, I will still be accessible, at least virtually. Our society has become so global that mere miles is no longer a barrier between friends, families, even complete strangers. While I am off traveling, I will still have an electronic connection to home.
So, with that said, I have downloaded various apps that anyone can feel free to contact me on:
Tango – for face to face calling
Viber – for calling and texting
WhatsApp – for texting
They are all connected through my Facebook so everyone should be able to acces me. Otherwise, David and I both will be checking our emails and the messages and comments we receive on this blog and everyone is, of course, welcome to come with us virtually on this journey.
