Today we headed south to visit another great uncle, this time on my grandmother’s side. As a special treat we got to go to a nearby forest for the special blooming of the “Calanit” which happens to be Israel’s national flower. The flower only blooms every year for a short period of time (about two weeks) between December and March and Israelis get really excited about it. The flowers carpet the ground and you are forbidden to step on them, at least according to my grandfather.
